Bottled Water

The Good: Concerned with the purity of today's tap water, people have come to rely on bottled water in the workplace. They enjoy the cold, chlorine-free taste.

The Bad: Bottled water has many problems you have learned to overlook. Every time your cooler runs out of water, someone has to lift that heavy 40-lb. bottle. This is more than a nuisance, it's an injury risk to employees and a possible worker's compensation claim for your company. And it's not easy getting those awkward bottles into place without spilling and making a mess. It's no wonder the cooler is empty again - no one else wanted to change the bottle.

Then there's the issue of delivery and storage. The delivery driver tracks through your office, interrupting workflow and compromising security. Now you have the added work of counting and storing bottles. Think of all the things you could do with the valuable space those bottles are wasting. That water is there to help you do your job, not be your job.

The Ugly: What if all that work was for water that's not nearly as pure as you thought? While the water in your five-gallon bottle may have been pure when it left the bottling plant, that's an open system; exposed to a variety of airborne contaminants.

Not to mention, everything that comes into contact with the bottle ends up in your drinking water. Once introduced, these organisms find a welcome home in a pool of untreated water. We all know that an unchlorinated swimming pool will turn green - the same thing can happen in your bottled water cooler.
